This is one of the best times of year: back-to-school time! We hear the shuffle of backpacks, the squeaks of new shoes, the anxious giggles of adorable kids heading off to school for the first time. And then we read this statistic:
Childhood hunger is an epidemic in Arkansas. In fact, nearly 30% of Arkansas households struggle to afford food for themselves and for their children.
Back-to-school time is critical. Children who go hungry are more susceptible to illness, more likely to be hospitalized, and are less likely to succeed in academic or athletic pursuits.
In short, hunger destroys chances at a bright future for more than 200,000 Arkansas children.
It's unacceptable. And we know that we can help the future leaders of Arkansas. That's why we've partnered with Our House for our Back to School Food Drive.
From 8/11/14 through 8/16/14, any customer who brings an item for the food drive will receive 20% off their purchase.
If you're unable to visit our store physically this week, just order from us online. We'll donate 15% of all online order proceeds to Our House directly.
Our House has given us a list of urgent food needs, which include:
- Breakfast food items (Pop-Tarts, cereal, cereal bars, etc.)
- Individually wrapped snacks (Chex-Mix, Cheez-Its, granola bars, etc.)
- Rice cereal
- Baby food (stages 2 & 3)
- any other non-perishable food items
We can help put an end to childhood hunger. Let's give back to the community that has embraced us. We hope to see you in the store this week!
