Spam Musubi
Ingredients:
- Short grain steamed rice
- Neutral-flavor oil (vegetable, canola, avocado, etc.)
- Sliced spam
- Seaweed paper
- Furikake
- Musubi Mold
- 3 Tbsp Soy Sauce
- 3 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tsp Mirin (Optional)
Instructions:
- Make steamed rice, let it cool to room temperature.
- Cook sliced spam in a skillet over medium-heat until it has a slight color.
- Stir together Soy Sauce, Sugar, and Mirin. Add to pan with Spam and make sure all sides of the spam are coated.
- Let the spam cool to room temperature.
- Assemble the ingredients in the musubi mold and serve!
Tips for a Better Spam Musubi:
- Add scrambed eggs!
- Any protein may be used. If it's a looser protein like tuna salad, you can sandwich it between two layers of rice.
- Choose your own Spam-to-rice ratio.
Korean Spam Fried Rice
Ingredients:
- Day-old rice
- Neutral-flavor oil (vegetable, canola, avocado, etc.)
- Minced garlic
- Diced onion
- Spam (cut in to desired shape)
- Egg
- Gochujang
- Sesame oil
- Soy sauce
- Green onions (thinly sliced)
- Sesame seeds (optional)
- 2 Tbsp gochujang
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 1 Tbsp sesame oil
Instructions:
- Cook the spam in about 2-3 tablespoons of cooking oil, once brown removed it from the oil and put it aside.
- Cook the garlic and onion in the spam oil.
- Once the garlic and spam have a little color add the rice. Cook until rice starts to soften and has the garlic and onion well distributed throughout.
- Add back the spam, mix all together.
- Add the sauce, mix until everything is evenly coated.
- Push the rice to edges of the pan to create a empty circle in the middle, add oil and whisk egg until scrambled then mix in with the rest of the rice.
- Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
Tips for a better Spam Fried Rice:
- If you don’t want it spicy, just omit the sauce.
- If you let the rice cook too long, it starts to char and get firm, so be sure to move it around in between letting it sit in the heat.
- This is also tasty if you top it with a fried egg.
Eggslut Spam Sandwich
Ingredients:
- Hawaiian rolls
- Sliced spam
- Neutral-flavor oil (vegetable, canola, avocado, etc.)
- Shredded green onions
- Egg
- Sriracha
- Kewpie mayo
- Sesame oil
- Lime juice
- 2 Tbsp sriracha
- 1.5 Tbsp kewpie mayo
- 1 Tsp sesame oil
- Lime to taste
Instructions:
- Cook the spam.
- Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half, lightly toast.
- Assemble all the ingredients.
Tips for a better Eggslut Sandwich:
- The eggs may be cooked in any desired way, you are not limited to sunny side up.
- The sauce measurement may be changed according to personal taste.
